Burkes Beach Access Hilton Head

If you are looking for a great public beach area closer to mid-island, you might consider Burkes Beach Access Hilton Head. As you drive onto Hilton Head Island, stay on the William Hilton Parkway for about 6.5 miles and turn left onto Burkes Beach Road (see the map of Burkes Beach. Burkes Beach is a wonderful location to bring your beach gear and camp out for a while. This is also a great location to bring a photographer and get some amazing photos with the dunes and colorful sea oats in the background. Ample parking is available at the Chaplin Community Park as you turn on to Burkes Beach Road.

Parking

Parking is free at the Chaplin Community Park. Many spaces provide shade for your vehicle during a part of the day. Depending on where you park, there is a little bit of a walk to Burkes Beach. If you are bringing a lot of beach equipment, having a cart or wheeled assistance is very helpful.

Bike Ride to Burkes Beach Access

Taking a bike ride to Burkes Beach is a great option as well. There are plenty of places to lock up your bikes and head to the beach. Depending on where you stay on the island, it could be a long ride. Be sure to check the distance before heading out on a ride to Burkes Beach. If you do ride your bikes to Burkes Beach and you will be taking beach equipment with you, having a pull-behind cart to haul all of your beach items is highly recommended. Be sure to ask for a cart when renting your bikes.

Walking Paths

Once you park at Chaplin Community Park, start your walk by heading back to Burkes Beach Road. From here, take a right and at the end of the Road, a long path will take you across the marsh, through the dunes, and onto the beach.

Beach Access

Burkes Beach is an amazing place to visit. The dunes with Sea Oats provide a beautiful backdrop and you will find some trails along the dunes and marsh area to see the beach from a different perspective. Situated in front of Chaplin Community Park, there are no houses or hotels nearby. If you walk about 1,000 feet to the north end of Hilton Head (to the left looking at the ocean), you will start to see more development starting with the Vacation Rentals at Marriott Surfwatch . All of the beaches on Hilton Head Island are owned by the state of South Carolina. You are allowed to walk as far as you like once at the beach.

Restrooms at Burkes Beach Access

Outside showers are provided as you enter and leave the Burkes Beach entrance. If you need to use the restroom facilities, you will have to walk over to the Chaplin Community Park. There you will find multiple restroom areas available to the public.
