Bike Ride to Alder Beach Access

Riding your bike to the Alder Beach Access is a great way to go to the beach. When you rent your bikes, be sure to get a pull behind cart to haul all of your beach items with you.

Walking Paths

If you parked at Woodward Avenue, about a 1,200-foot (about .2 mile) walk ahead of you. To get to Alder Beach Access, walk from Woodward Ave to South Forest Beach Dr, and take a right on the walking/bike path. Continue on the walking path for about 300 feet and you will see the Alder Lane Beach Access on your left, across S Forest Beach Drive (There is a painted crosswalk at this crossing location). Once on the Alder Lane Beach Access Path, you will have about 750 feet of the path to walk to the edge of the beach. Along the way, you will have access to public restrooms and a showering station.

Beach Access

The Beach is fantastic no matter where you are on Hilton Head Island. As you walk onto the sand, you will typically see more people on the beach to the left due to the Marriott Grande Ocean Resort being right next door. Looking to the right, there are only homes for the next 1.5-mile stretch of sand. The Beach on Hilton Head Island is owned by the state of South Carolina. Once you are on the sand, you are allowed to walk along the beach in any direction. Pick a great spot and enjoy your time at the Alder Lane Beach Access.

Restrooms at Alder Lane Beach Access

Even though Alder Lane Beach Access is not considered a park, it is really nice to find public bathrooms. This allows you to stay at the beach and use the facilities when needed without having to pack everything up and go back to your living area. Near the bathrooms, there are also a couple of outside shower stations to spray off all of the sand as you are heading out.
