Folly Field Beach Park Information:
Parking
Once you reach the first corner of Starfish Drive, the Folly Field Beach Park entrance is easy to find. Several parking spaces run parallel to Starfish Dive. All the parking spaces require you to pay a fee at the metered parking center at the front of the boardwalk to Folly Field Beach.
Coins or Credit Cards can be used to pay for your metered parking. Remember the space number before walking up to pay at the meter when parking your car. If you have paid for yearly pass parking at Hilton Head, you can use this to cover your parking fee.
Bike Ride to Folly Field Beach
For those who prefer biking as a means of transportation, Folly Field Beach Park provides bike-friendly facilities and ample bicycle parking options. Riding your bike to the park allows you to enjoy the coastal breeze and the scenic surroundings.
Upon arriving at the park, bike racks are available to park your bicycle securely. Bike racks are conveniently located at the front of the park. Remember to bring a lock for your bike to ensure its safety while you explore the park or relax on the beach.
Walking Paths
After you pay your parking meter fee, it is off to the Beach. Folly Field Beach Park has a nice, raised wooden boardwalk to get you to the sand on the beach. This walkway takes you past the public restrooms and outdoor showers and across the primary dunes with plentiful sea oats. The walking distance is about 400 feet along the wooden path.
At the end of the wooden path, a gentle ramp eases you down to the sand. There are no stairs which make it easier for wheelchairs and other wheeled items to get to the sand. A beach mat will get you across the soft sand to the harder-packed sand. This is also nice for anyone pulling a cart with beach supplies or if you are walking your bikes to the beach. Seasonally, there will be lifeguards on the beach.
Restrooms at Folly Field Beach Park
Folly Field Beach Park in Hilton Head offers clean, spacious, and well-maintained restroom facilities. Strategically located on the raised wooden path to the beach, these facilities include separate areas for men and women.
The restrooms are regularly stocked with toilet paper, equipped with soap dispensers, and designed to be wheelchair accessible.
Show Stations on the Boardwalk
Getting the sand out of your toes before getting in your car makes for a much more enjoyable ride. As you leave the beach, shower stations are available on the raised wooden path.
Wash yourself, beach toys, and anything else with sand stuck in its crevices. Two outdoor shower stations are provided with ample space between them for a couple of visitors to clean off before heading off on the rest of their journey.
Picnic Tables
Folly Field Beach Park provides limited picnic tables, but visitors can bring their own food to enjoy at the beach. Bring blankets, chairs, or portable tables to create your own picnic spot.
Please take care of the beach and park areas when you leave and clean up for the next visitors to have a perfect Hilton Head view.
Folly Field Beach
After you make it down to the beach, it is time to find a spot to set up for your time at the Atlantic Ocean. Folly Field Beach is on the Atlantic Ocean side of Hilton Head Island. Listening to the crashing of the waves makes for a wonderful time on the white sands and hard-packed surfaces.
Knowing the tide schedule at Hilton Head can help you choose the best position on the sand. If the tide is heading in, find a place closer to the soft sand; if the tide is heading out, the hard-packed areas get longer until the tide changes again.
The beaches at Hilton Head Island are owned by the state of South Carolina. This means that, once you are in the beach area, you can walk the entire length of the beaches. Exploring the island by taking a long stroll on the beach or riding a bike is fun. If you walk to your right (looking at the ocean), you will pass the Sea Cloisters, Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort, Palmetto Dunes, Shipyard, and then Sea Pines. On the left, you have private homes, the The Westin Hilton Head Resort, and Port Royal Plantation.
