Top 4 THINGS TO DO IN Hilton Head
People come to Hilton Head Island for many reasons. For those who love Golf and take weekends or entire weeks to enjoy the game, there are many Courses located in and around Hilton Head Island. Others visit to amp up their Tennis game, with many courts available and premiere tennis lesson locations. Family adventures abound on the Island, and you are sure to find many places to explore and make memories that will never be forgotten.
While the white beaches at Hilton Head are stunning no matter where you stay, there are plenty of other things to do to take time with one another. Dolphin Tours and Kayak rentals are a great way to explore the Wildlife, including the playful dolphins in their natural habitats around the Island. Many visit the Island for years without exploring the many Parks available to the community. In fact, we visited Hilton Head a few times before exploring all of the many fun locations outside of the typical “Beach-Trip” locations.
When you visit, know there are so many fun things to do that you will never get them all the first time. Start with the many Outdoor Adventures and see how many Family-Friendly activities there are to explore. Nature and Wildlife abound, and there are so many options for taking in the nature around you. Outdoor Activities in Hilton Head
If you’re anything like me and love spending time outdoors, Hilton Head Island is a true paradise. It is the perfect place to bring the family together, set cell phones aside, and take in the natural beauty surrounding the island. One of my top picks would be riding a bike around the island. Another, at the top of my list, is kayaking through the serene marshes. Picture this: you’re paddling along calm waters, surrounded by the green grasses of the marshland, and suddenly, a dolphin pops up nearby. It’s truly a magical experience that never grows old.
For those who prefer to stay on land, walking along the scenic trails of is a real treat. You can explore everything from dense forests at the Audobon Newhall Preserve or the Sea Pines Preserve or take in a magnificent adventure at the Coastal Discovery Museum. And remember to set aside some time for a beach day. Whether building sandcastles, playing bocce ball on the sand or relaxing in the South Carolina sun, Hilton Head’s beaches are simply unbeatable.
Bike Riding: There is no better way to get around the Island than on bike. Bring your own or get a rental and explore to your hearts content. There are over 100 bike trails to ride and you will find a trail to get you almost everywhere on Hilton Head Island.

Golf: No matter where you stay on Hilton Head, there is a Golf Course for you. If you want to play one of the courses in one of the gated communities, you can book a tee time and share it with the guard and they will allow you in. Palmetto Dunes has three golf courses designed by some amazing names in the game, including Robert Trent Jones Sr., George Fazio, and Arthur Hills. Sea Pines is home to the famous Harbour Town Golf Links and there are plenty of others on Hilton Head and just off the island in Bluffton.
Tennis/Pickleball: For tennis and pickleball enthusiasts, Hilton Head is a dream come true. The island offers several top-notch facilities, including the renowned Van Der Meer Tennis Center and Palmetto Dunes Tennis & Pickleball Center. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting, Hilton Head’s well-maintained courts are ready for you. What’s more, many centers offer professional coaching, ensuring that you can take your game to the next level with confidence.
Pickleball has also taken off here (as it has everywhere). There are plenty of courts at different locations around the island. There are even organized events that are set up for all skill levels and are fun to participate in.
Dolphin Watching and Tours: One of our highlights when visiting Hilton Head is looking for dolphin. There’s something incredibly special about seeing dolphins in their natural habitat. Many times, we rent kayaks and explore the waters around Hilton Head in search of wildlife. Every time we go out and explore, we find dolphins in the creeks, sounding and heading out to sea.
If you want some guidance, there are also plenty of boat excursions to take you out into the calm waters around the island, where dolphins are frequently spotted. Whether you choose a guided kayak tour or a relaxing sunset cruise, you’ll likely see dolphins leaping and playing nearby. Many tours are led by knowledgeable guides who share fascinating insights about dolphin behavior and the local ecosystem. It’s an unforgettable experience that brings you up close to nature and creates lasting memories.

Kayaking in Hilton Head lets you see the Island from a different perspective. There are multiple locations to kayak, and each one has unique views filled with wildlife and adventure. I don’t think there has ever been a time where we have gone kayaking in Hilton Head and not see dolphin nearby.

If you’re looking to mix adventure with relaxation, Paddleboarding in Hilton Head is a great way to explore the water. The gentle waters in the sound and creeks are ideal for anyone new at the sport or if you have been doing it for years. Paddleboarding gives you a versatility that you don’t get with Kayaking and allows you to see your surrounding from a standing up or sitting down position. Most of the water sport rental shops offer high-quality Paddleboards, and they’ll set you up with everything you need for a fun day out on the water. Each cruise is unique but all offer stunning views of the sun setting over the water. Most of the time, you get the added bonus of spotting dolphins playing nearby.
If fishing is your passion, Hilton Head is great place to cast your cares and your time into the water to reel in your amazing catch. Fishing can be done from many locations around the island but for a real adventure, you can charter a fishing boat for deep-sea fishing. Guides on these fishing excursions are very familiar with the area and will guide you to the perfect location to get the best fishing available.
Looking for that thrill on the water? Rent a Sea-Doo for a high-speed might be just what you were looking for. Jarvis Creek Park
Jarvis Creek Park is a park you must visit. As you enter the park, and park in a free parking space, you will notice a path that takes you around the lake on a picturesque walk. Jarvis Creek is a great spot for fishing, bird watching, or just sitting on one of the park benches and taking in a quiet moment by the water. A large kids playground and picnic tables along with public restrooms make this park a great option for a fun family outing.
Coastal Discovery Museum
Our visit to the Coastal Discovery Museum was nothing short of magical. This museum displays nature and history in a perfect blend. As we walked along paths that lead to the exhibits, we loved walking through the massive live oaks draped with Spanish moss. The indoor exhibits were also fun and provided insights into the island’s cultural heritage.
Veterans Memorial Park
The Veterans Memorial Park has to be my favorite on the island. Not only is this park one of the prettiest with views of the marsh area, it is also important as it displays a heartfelt tribute to those who have served our country. The peaceful atmosphere, along with the thoughtfully designed memorials, made for a visit I will never forget. We found ourselves reflecting on the sacrifices of the brave men and women honored here.
